Dominic Skinner, director and founding design partner, with his Dutch wife Claire Skinner, Interior designer, have created an award-winning design and lifestyle company, Skinner and Skinner Design, based in Corfu, Greece.
Since its inception in 2004, the last 10 years have seen involvement in many projects in the Ionian and Aegean areas; from renovations of historic old villages in Corfu to village master plans in Kefalonia; from private houses and hotels in Paxos, Zakynthos, Mykonos and Meganisi to a refurbishment of a 150ft private yacht in Athens. Predominantly most of the project work is based in Corfu and Paxos and falls into 3 categories :
- Private clients, bespoke houses, villas, motor boats
- Portfolio design for rental houses in Greece and UK
- Design and development of Town House Co project
Skinner and Skinner Design has been responsible for the concept of over 75 houses, the creation of the Ionian Estates, and has designed and built approx 35 private luxury villas in Corfu with values at between 3-25 million, and has evolved and developed the award winning new brand The TownHouse Company.
From the main office based in Corfu Old Town the team, of qualified Greek Architects, is dedicated to our clients turning aspirations into reality. Each project is totally unique, reflecting the clients’ tastes and lifestyles. The ‘Turn Key’ design process, construction sequence and project fruition is seen as a seamless process thus providing the most efficient and enjoyable experience for our clients.
Great consideration is given to the quality of the finished product and the detailing is paramount. Skinner and Skinner Design advise on all Architectural design aspects and Interior design.
The construction sequence is in close affiliation with this dedicated team of highly regarded designers and engineers thus creating a very efficient execution with sympathetic awareness to detail design. The construction process is complimented by a highly skilled local workforce of stone masons, craftsmen and artisans using local materials in coordination with new environmentally sustainable government guidelines.The mechanical and electrical solutions reflect today technology, with ‘future proofing’ creating a very high quality product with energy efficiency awareness.
The most prestigious job to date has been the involvement with the Loggos Estate, a conversion of a derelict olive oil soap factory into a 6-star hotel, found in Paxos. As the lead designer and project supervisor, Dominic Skinner has had overall responsibility to date, (since 2010) not just for the design but also for obtaining change of use, planning consents and grant approval. Skinner and Skinner Design has carefully guided the design team of some 20 consultants on the project for the last four years with a concluding endorsement and signature from the Greek Minister of Culture.
Dominic Skinner spent eight years working for Lord Norman Foster in the UK, prior to moving to the Ionian, as an associate in his architectural practice, spending time in London and Hong Kong.
In 2004 he moved to Corfu having bought a derelict 200-year-old village in the north east of the island. It took four years to restore the village retaining its original charm but adding 21st century comforts. This award-winning project, The Rou Estate, is made up from some 16 houses, restaurant, private spa, Mediterranean gardens, pool area is currently marketed by specialist tour operator Simpson Travel to an international clientele.
The Town House Co project started in 2017 and is a branded chain of town houses, renovated and decorated in a stylish and modern way, offered for short and long-term rentals, for a holiday or business trip, for absolute relaxation and tranquility. The growing portfolio of 28 suites in distinctive Town Houses can be found 14 “Liston Suites” and “Garden Suites” in Corfu Old Town and 4 “Acropolis Town House” suites in Athens –Acropolis Museum, 5 “Loggos Suites” in Paxos and 5 new suites “Petworth Townhouse “ all situated in the most distinctive areas, where you can still breathe the authentic atmosphere of the old times and the various historical periods.
To compliment the ethos behind their creations a wellness arm has been created by Claire – Meraki Yoga Retreats- a beautifully crafted yoga & wellness retreats combining outstanding teaching surrounded by nature & wonderful and complimented environments.
New projects and acquisitions include Laggos Bay Lodge , Fig Tree Lodge and Kipos Bay House, Paxos.
